The story behind the cover: The cover was entirely my idea, but it was drawn by none other than MTV2 host Jim Shearer. Jim is a great guy, and I'm not just saying that because he drew the cover for free. He's an extremely talented, intelligent man, with perhaps the most upbeat and genuine disposition I've come to encounter in the entire human race. Since the cover of my novel depicts Christian strangling a Klansman, I am expecting some hate mail. Of course, I don't think I deserve hate mail, at least not for the cover of the book. After all, the Klan was a terrorist organization that committed multiple atrocities on innocent black people for decades. If we, as Americans now define ourselves as a nation against terrorism, then hate mail protesting the cover of Brookwater's Curse would be, dare I say, entirely un-American. (I'll bet I'm the first registered Democrat to pull that one.) In truth, racist white people should be glad that I went with the current illustration and not just some generic cover. That way, they know my book is probably something they don't want to read. But I understand that some people would want to express their views on the matter. As a writer, I can relate to that burning desire to express yourself. So, I've provided a separate blog for anyone out there who has not read the book and simply wants to call me names and complain about how niggers are destroying the country and so on. That way, people who will be writing in the other blog to actually discuss the content of the book aren't subjected to any unpleasantness. To complain about the cover, click here! |
